A house of the future for PLN 5,000? Can Xiaomi really build it?

Just a decade ago, the idea of a flat controlled by an app sounded like a futuristic dream. Smart home was associated with expensive installations reserved for wealthy owners of designer apartments. Today, thanks to Xiaomi, that scenario can be realised for a price that doesn’t make your head spin. 5000 PLN is roughly what you’d pay for a premium TV or a single flagship smartphone from a competing brand. And yet, for the same amount you can build a complete ecosystem of devices that turns an ordinary flat into a space straight out of science fiction. Xiaomi proves that a smart home can be simple, functional and – most importantly – within reach.

Many manufacturers offer standalone products: lamps, vacuum cleaners or speakers. Xiaomi approached the topic differently from the very beginning. What makes the brand stand out is the ability to build a coherent ecosystem in which every device communicates with the others. The TV can synchronise with smart lighting, the air purifier with your fitness band, and the robot vacuum with your daily schedule. Everything is managed by the Mi Home app, which becomes the command centre of your home. Thanks to it, the flat starts reacting to the rhythm of everyday life – when you come home, the lights turn on automatically; when you go to bed, the system quietens the surroundings and takes care of air quality.

This is no longer a collection of gadgets. It’s a carefully arranged puzzle in which every piece has its place and the whole creates a sense of harmony and consistency.

How technology turns the living room, kitchen and bedroom into modern spaces

Every home has its centre of life – in most flats it’s the living room. That’s where we spend the most time: during the day it becomes a remote-work space, where the laptop and TV can take over the role of an office, and in the evening it turns into a zone of relaxation and get-togethers. In its smart version, the ordinary TV screen becomes the focal point around which the whole mood is built. Picture and sound work together to create the atmosphere of a private cinema, while light completes the scene – bright and energetic when you need a boost, warm and dimmed when you want to unwind. This is where it becomes clear that a smart home is not about owning gadgets, but about harmony between elements that together create an experience. With a single tap, a room that just hosted a video conference transforms into an intimate space where picture, sound and light set the tone for a cosy evening.

The kitchen is no less important – traditionally seen as the heart of the home. It’s where everyday rituals are born: the smell of morning coffee, cooking together, a quick dinner after a long day. In a smart home, the kitchen doesn’t become a sci-fi lab – there are no robotic arms or complicated control panels. Instead, technology steps in discreetly, supporting us in simple, repetitive tasks. The kettle keeps water at the right temperature, the multicooker takes over cooking, and the air purifier makes sure frying smells don’t linger for hours after a meal. This changes the character of the kitchen – it stops being a place you have to constantly supervise and becomes a partner that keeps watch so you can rest or spend time with your family. It’s a subtle yet crucial shift: technology doesn’t dominate – it supports.

The bedroom, meanwhile, is a space with a completely different purpose. Here, calm, quiet and regeneration matter most. In a modern Xiaomi home, it too gains a smart dimension. The air purifier filters dust and allergens, improving breathing comfort at night. A bedside lamp slowly dims, imitating sunset and helping your body naturally prepare for sleep. A fitness band tracks the length and quality of your rest, so you can better understand how to support a healthy daily rhythm. An ordinary room turns into a sanctuary of peace where every detail counts. The smart devices are almost invisible – they don’t distract, don’t make noise, don’t add chaos. But their presence gives the reassuring feeling that your sleep is more mindful and your recovery deeper.

Looking at these three spaces together – living room, kitchen and bedroom – you can see that a smart home is not a futuristic vision full of shiny screens and loud robots. It’s a subtle transformation of places we already know. Each one remains itself: a living room, a kitchen and a bedroom. The difference is that technology makes them respond better to our needs. One room becomes the stage for daily experiences, another a helper in everyday chores, and the third a haven of rest. Together they tell a coherent story of a home that’s not a luxury for the few, but a reality we can live in right now.

Cleaning and security – the smart way

In everyday life, one of the most tiresome duties is cleaning. Xiaomi tackles this problem with robot vacuums that vacuum and mop floors on their own. These devices take over one of the most disliked chores. They are complemented by home cameras and smart plugs. The former let you keep an eye on your flat from anywhere in the world, while the latter give you remote control over power and energy consumption.

In this area the smart home not only boosts convenience but also a sense of security. It gives you the comfort of knowing your home is under control even when you’re hundreds of kilometres away.

Cost at a glance

All of the devices described fit within a budget of around 5000 PLN. That amount covers a TV and audio system for the living room, a set of kitchen helpers, solutions that support regeneration in the bedroom, a robot vacuum and accessories that enhance security. Not long ago, that kind of money would buy a single module of a professional smart home system. Today it’s enough to create a complete, functional flat.

The home of the future is already here

Will such a set make us feel like we’re in a sci-fi film? Not necessarily. But it will show that the future isn’t about spectacular gadgets, it’s about simple solutions that change everyday life. Xiaomi proves that a smart home is not a luxury – it’s an attainable option that genuinely improves comfort.

The living room becomes a cinema, the kitchen a helper, the bedroom a sanctuary, and cleaning stops being a chore. The home starts to respond to our rhythm, and we gain more time and energy. And all that for an amount many of us already spend on a single phone.
